Author: Peter Gemeinhardt ISBN: 626 Genre: Religion File Size: 45.12 MB Format: PDF, Mobi Download: 322 Read: 676 The hotly debated ecumenical and theological issue of whether the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father alone or from the Son as well as the Father (ex patre filioque) is analyzed in light of ecclesiastical history and the history of Christian doctrine. Starting from the varied reception of the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed in the Latin-speaking area, the author inquires into the origins of the filioque controversy between the eighth and the twelfth centuries.
The pneumatological and confessional differences and the basic political and ecclesiastical framework involved are described. The dispute over the filioque clause proves to be a key to a theological divergence between the Greek East and the Latin West, a movement whose origins lay in the fundamental theological decisions about the Trinity in the fourth century. The filioque issue thus cannot be 'solved' by deleting a word but only by ensuring dialogue between two irreducible manifestations of the Trinitarian dogma. Category: Religion. Author: Axel Wiemer ISBN: Genre: Religion File Size: 41.10 MB Format: PDF, Kindle Download: 625 Read: 284 The work presents a comprehensive systematic account of Luther's eschatological theology on the basis of the 17 sermons which he preached on 1 Corinthians 15 in 1532 and 1533. The interpretation of the sermons provides exemplary evidence for the thesis that Luther's theology is totally based on the promise of full completion. This applies both to his basic decisions in the doctrine of faith and the word and of the language of faith.
It applies equally to the doctrine of the Resurrection, which covers the whole span from creation and the fall through salvation to the consummation of Christ's victory in 'the death of death,' and to Luther's discourse on life in this world. Category: Religion.
. 653 pgs, hardcover In this age of doctrinal confusion there is a pressing need for a comprehensive source book on authentic Catholic dogma that carries the full weight of the Magisterium of the Church while at the same time both practical and handily accessible to clergy and laity alike. You have such a book in this English translation of Fr. Heinrich Denzinger's Enchiridion Symbolorum et Definitionum, or, as we more commonly know it Sources of Catholic Dogma, or simply 'Denzinger' (Dz). Since its first publication during the pontificate of Pope Pius IX, this handbook or collection ( enchiridion) of articles (symbols) of faith and morals has enjoyed universal appeal and approbation.
The book has been updated periodically; this is the 1957 edition. The collection includes all articles and creeds of the Catholic Faith beginning with that of the 12 Apostles, all dogmatic definitions stamped with the Petrine authority of the Apostolic See ( ex cathedra), decrees of the solemn Magisterium, papal bulls, encyclicals and letters, as well as some of the more weighty decisions of the Holy Office prior to 1957. Although not every entry in this 653-page compendium of Church teaching is definitional ( i.e., ex cathedra), it still should be considered the final word on doctrinal questions, especially in these times of ecclesiastical anarchy. In addition to a general index there is a scriptural index plus an invaluable systematic or topical index making for very easy reference. Note, too, this 1957 edition comes with a one page Corrigenda which is a list of 16 corrections that must be applied to errors (usually omissions) that escaped the eyes of editors in previous editions, such as the 1954 edition which is also currently being sold by some Catholic booksellers.
