Inspired by the awesome nursing staff at Children’s Hospital, Heidi’s dream was to become one of them. After her first brain surgery, Heidi became an inspirational speaker for the “Relay for Life” events. She loved telling her story, in hopes that it would help others dealing with cancer and its treatment.
With teary eyes, her MSU and Maple River audiences graciously gave her standing ovations. She had “touched them all” in a very special way. Heidi was also a huge Twins fan. She was known for her infectious personality and love of life. She was a role model for the young and old. No matter what she was going through, Heidi always had a positive attitude and a beautiful smile.
Her creativity was amazing. She was an instigator, a thrill seeker, and was not afraid of anything. She truly lived life to the fullest.
Heidi is survived by her parents, Neil and Clare; brother Ryan; sister Kelly; grandparents LuZerne Rensink of Benson, and Orland and Ginny Drager of Minnesota Lake; aunts and uncles; and 21 cousins. One of Heidi’s favorite sayings was, “Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” She will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Heidi’s life took place at St Peter’s Catholic Church in Delano Wednesday, April 22 at 11 a.m. Visitation was Tuesday, April 21 from 4 to 8 p.m.; and continued Wednesday for one hour prior to the funeral service. Arrangements were by Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
